How To Get In Touch With Elaine HasteElaine Haste is the person at DfES Darlington who is responsible for Elective Home Education.
Sample letter/email to DFES:"I am a home educating parent. I understand that there is shortly to be a DFES consultation about light touch changes to the "monitoring" of home educated children. Please keep me informed of any further developments with regard to this consultation. Yours sincerely" You can send this to her via email, or snail mail:
Elaine Haste We should say here that Elective Home Education is a tiny part of what the DfES do. Things which are terribly important to us hardly show up on the radar at the DfES unless we are assertive and demonstrate that it is important and mutually beneficial for the DfES to listen to the home education community. Here is a link to an organisational chart for the DfES. Elaine Haste is in the same department as Penny Jones who is also responsible for Independent Schools and School Travel and this department in turn comes under "School Formation and Investment Group" heading. To put it bluntly, if some emergency comes up about School Travel, then this affects far more families than Elective Home Education and we will once again be put on the back burner.
