The Home Education CampaignFollowing the Badman Review of Home Education from January to June 2009, the Government launched a consultation on proposals for compulsory registration and monitoring of home educated children in England. From July to October 2009, the Children Schools and Families Select Committee undertook an inquiry into the conduct of the Badman Review. In November 2009 the Government tried to change the law on home education via the new Children Schools and Families Bill. Education Otherwise has prepared a page of information about the Government's new proposals.

Elective Home Education Guidelines for England were published by DCSF in November 2007. You can read them here. Education Otherwise has been campaigning for over a year to protect home educating lone parents on Income Support. Home educators are not exempt from new regulations which were made on November 24th 2008. We are however assured that the Jobseeker's Allowance regime is flexible enough to allow home educators to be treated "sensitively." Read more here.
